INDIAN WEDDING

A Hindu wedding ceremony is a union of two souls

A bond between two families, the ceremony takes place in a Mandap (an alter with four pillars that represent the foundations of a fulfilled life) in the presence of Agni (the God of fire), the divine witness and the most essential constituent of all sanskaras (subtle mental impressions left by thoughts, action and intentions). Agni is believed to dispel darkness and ignorance and serves as a link to cosmic power.

The core of ceremony is a collection of rituals performed by the bride, groom, and the bride's parents with close relatives. Each ritual has a deep philosophical meaning and purpose. During the ceremony, the bride and the groom are regarded as divine, the bride representing Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity and the groom representing Narayan (Vishnu) the sustainer of the universe
